Author's note

Flatiron font by Nick Curtis is a free retro display typeface with the stance of a city skyscraper: tall, compressed, and unapologetically bold. Its rigid verticals and chunky horizontal bars create a stacked, architectural feel that recalls theater marquees, iron signage, and early 20th-century storefronts. The shapes are clean and blocky, so even in heavy black they read as sharp and deliberate, never muddy.

Using Flatiron, headlines snap into place with a strong vertical rhythm that grabs attention in a fraction of a second. This free font shines on vintage-style posters, book covers, packaging, logos, event flyers, and signage that needs a tough, urban voice. Try pairing Flatiron with a simple geometric sans in smaller sizes to handle supporting text and let those towering letters do the heavy lifting in your layout.
