Why the fonts don't show up in emails / messengers?

Your correspondent can only view the fonts installed on his computer. If the font used is not installed on his computer, the font will be replaced by a default font.

How many fonts can be installed?

When fonts used, they have to be loaded in your computer's memory. The more fonts you have, the more memory is being consumed – which is slowing down the system. If you have 1000s of fonts, it's better to install a font manager, where you're able to activate just those fonts you really would like to use.

Why are some characters / glyphs missing?

Some font authors do not fill out the whole character map. Because of that, their font may not support accents, numbers, upper or lower characters. It's simply up to the author what characters / glyphs is he going to support.

How can I see all characters included in a font?

To check what characters / glyphs are supported, simply go to the font details page at Fonts2u and take a look at the character map table. You may even browse thru different character maps supported. Just use the select box above the character map table to navigate.

Can I use freeware fonts for my commercial work?

Freeware fonts can be used commercially or non-commercially without acquiring copyright permission as long as you will not profit from the use of the font. The author of the font will always retain the copyright, which refers to the reproduction, distribution, alteration and publication of the font. If you are unsure if you can use a font for a particular task the best action would be to contact the author and request the permission.

How do I use international fonts in Windows?

Many users are surprised when they download a CE or Japanese font only to see regular English characters on the screen when they start typing. To see the right regional characters, you will need to turn on the appropriate language keyboard support in the Windows Control Panel.

Installing Language Support

  1. open the Control Panel from the Start Menu
  2. choose Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options
  3. choose Add other languages
  4. depending on what language you want to use, you may need to turn on one of the checkboxes in the "Supplemental language support" section:
  • use "complex script and right-to-left" for Hebrew, Hindi, Arabic, and Thai
  • use "East Asian" for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean
  • after turning on the checkbox(es) and saying OK to the message window, click the Apply button to install the files from your Windows CD
  • click No when prompted to reboot. You don't need to yet
  1. click the Details... button in the "Text services and input languages" section
  2. click the Add... button in the "Installed services" section
  3. select your desired language from the top dropdown list
  4. click OK and keep clicking OK on each remaining Control Panel window
  5. reboot
Using international fonts in your applications

Now that you have installed the language support, you should see the "Language Bar" at the bottom of your screen next to the clock area. It says EN for English. To start typing:

  1. Open your desired application (e.g. MS Word).
  2. Click on the Language Bar ("EN") and choose your desired language from the list.

What does it mean to embed a font?

In order to ensure that others who view your documents see the fonts you chose, you must embed the font in the document. Most applications that support document creation have a feature to do this. For example, when creating an Adobe PDF, you would do this on the Fonts tab of the Job Options window. Please check the „embedding rights" (font details section) on the font detail page at Fonts2u. Some authors do not allow to embed their fonts.

How to use a new font with a software?
